Watch all 24 dark and brooding episodes of the online Canadian animated comic epic, Broken Saints.
For anyone who has read graphic novels knows that it takes time to read and absorb the sometimes sophisticated panels; each panel is there for a reason. In print, the panel is static and requires your eyes to move and your imagination to fill in the sounds.
Writer/ Director Brooke Burgess and his team of sleep deprived artists took that to another level when he decided to put sound and movement to comics using photoshop and flash media software to create Broken Saints. Refered to as "graphic literature", in its classic site, Broken Saints brought movement and sound effects to its story.
What results is a cross between the dark and surrealism of David Lynch's Twin Peaks meets the Matrix meets Lord of the Rings-ish. It's THAT epic and fantastic and marvelous and thought provokingly creepy.
Now on DVD, the team reworked all 24 episodes to include dialogue and 5.1 stereo surround sound plus went back and redid most of its artwork. What results is a fantastic feast of eye and sound candy that embarrasses most releases I've seen ... and the reason why was that it was put together out of passion.
Among its fully loaded Special features, including Series creator commentary on all episodes there are extensive Making Of featurettes that take you through the technical process of putting together a DVD release on Telefilm (Canadian Government) funding. Also included are fan films, Comic Con, TV and Radio Interviews ... and just about anything and everything that had to do with this remarkable online cult series - 5 hours in total ... which is about half the length of the series itself.
Want more? DVD-ROM features includes Wallpaper, MP3s of the soundrack plus access to 13 episodes of its classic series.
Simply put, it's an amazing DVD release for any hard core graphic novelist reader.
