A twisted Cinderella story about greed, power, jealousy, sibling rivalry and love, see why everyone wants to try on the Glass Slipper.
In the first half of the popular Korean Drama Glass Slipper, young sisters Kim Tae-hee and Kim Yoon-hee are orphaned and tragically separated after the death of their father. After a car accident which causes Yoon-hee to lose her memory, Tae-hee crusades a 15 year search for her missing sister. As adults, Yoon-hee, known as Lee Sun-woo and Tae-hee cross paths in several unfortunate circumstances as they inadvertently become each other's rivals in both work and love not knowing who the other is.
This is perhaps the most soapiest sudsy K-drama I've seen that would be on parallel with the likes of Days of Our Lives or Young and the Restless in terms of plotlines - and that's not to say it's a bad thing.
There are two Cinderella stories entertwining here:
1 - The Eldest - Tae Hee played by Kim Ji Ho, who struggles for the first 15 years of her life, now lives the in the lap of luxury with everything provided except the presence of the prince who helped her, Jang Jae Hyuk played by Han Jae-Suk and her missing sister.Things are made difficult by her aunt, who is forced to move in with her son whom she wants to take over the company. The son, however, has no ambitions of such grandeur and would rather chase skirts than money and power.
2 - The Youngest - Yoon-hee/Sun-woo, played by Kim Hyun Joo, who for the past 15 years has no idea that she is the granddaughter of the CEO of a major communications corporation. She has lived a very hard and cruel life with her foster family who's done nothing but caused her misery. Still, she holds onto the hope that she will one day remember who she is and be reunited with her family.
Hyun Joo's Yoon-hee infectious smile and eternal optimism is heartbreaking when countered with evil stepsister Sung-hee played by Kim Min Sun. No where have I see such an evil villainous character such as the manipulative, self-absorbed greedy Sung-hee, that it invoked my usual empathetic self to want to strangle her.Her fairy godmother comes in the form of a grandma whose son is the CEO's chauffeur and the prince ... well ... let's just say there are two of them.
According to YA Entertainment, Glass Slipper was the most requested of Korean dramas to reach North American shores. And according to an informal poll of friends and family, it's one of the most addictive, tear jerking and best they've seen. (My uncle stayed up till 3AM watching and cried.)
