Tartan releases a Special Collectors Edition of the hit Korean film Oldboy with a whole bunch of goodies inside.
For the review on the film, please visit here. Tartan Video has released Park Chan-wook's Grand Prix Award winning film Oldboy in a 3 disc special collector's edition boxed set. The tin itself was so pretty wrapped in the cellophane than it took me about a week to get the nerve to open the box to see what exactly was inside. Goodies include: Vol. 1 of the Japanese manga by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi and a portion of a film cell from the film. (I got one with English subtitles.) Disc 1: Feature Film with 3 audio commentaries - a) Director, b) Director and Cinematographer and c) Director and Cast. Disc 2: 5 Documentaries that chronicle the Making of, Production Design, The Music Score, CGI and Flashback. This particular disc is most interesting as it asks the cast about their concern with Oldboy's controversial theme and how they over came them. Also included is a featurette of the film winning the Grand Prix at Cannes and a phone interview with the writer of the manga Garon Tsuchiya on his thoughts of how Oldboy came about and what he thought of the movie. Disc 3: Autobiography chronicling all 69 shooting days of Oldboy. For any fan of the critically acclaimed movie, this is a must have.
