When Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) was given a decent storyline. Before Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica) became a Cylon. There was EDGEMONT, a Canadian teen soap.
On-air: 2001-2005 Year of Release: 2005 Country of Production: Canada Original Network: CBC Total No. of Episodes: 70 Lasting 5 seasons is an incredible feat for any Canadian series, so it's a near miracle that the show even had the fan base that it did to warrant a DVD release. The sleepy teen soap filled its high school hallways with drama, backstabbing and scheming every single week on US, UK and Canadian tv screens. At the centre of the series was the rocky love story between laid back Vancouverite Mark Deostade (Dominic Zamprogna) and ambitious Torontonian Laurel Yeung (Kristin Kreuk, Lana Lang from Smallville). Many of the series' actors can be seen in regular roles on other shows: Richard Kahan, playing slimeball Gil Kurvers is a regular on THE 4400. Neil Grayson, McKinley High's Editor in Chief trades his notebook for a set of knives in the recently cancelled primetime soapGODIVA'S. Kristen Kreuk, who did double duty in the first couple of seasons of SMALLVILLE really shows her acting skills as Laurel and Grace Park who played the sexually confused Shannon Ng is now front and centre of a war on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA as Sharon "Boomer" Valerii. OMNI Film Productions, the company that produced EDGEMONT released the full series; 5 seasons crammed onto a 10 disc DVD set with all the trimmings, special features, bloopers and outtakes for its loyal fans. Throughout the episodes Easter eggs pop up and transport to a hidden outtake or insight during the filming of this award winning series. For those fortunate enough to have received a copy, count yourselves lucky as I've just been informed that they are now officially a collectors item.
