Based on the book, Father Sky, TAPS tells the story of military cadets who defend their academy from closing down. First released in 1981, it starred recent Academy Award winner Timothy Hutton and newcomers, Sean Penn and Tom Cruise as cadets holding their ground against the condominium developers.

The 'Sounding The Call to Arms: Mobilizing the TAPS Generation' featurette is a nice 30 minute look back to the making of the feature in pre 9/11 times. The producers as well as Timothy Hutton sit down in recent interviews and talk about their experiences while filming and share ancedotes of the much more famous actors.
'The Bugler's Cry: The Origins of Playing 'Taps' featurette is an interesting 10 minute documentary on where the familiar 3 notes originated from; starting from drums to signal 'lights out' to the bugle at dusk.
