Fred reviews Season One on DVD. Giant metal spiders anyone? ... Just Kidding
It only took seven years but now there is a proper representation of Wild Wild West on DVD, besides the Will Smith movie. Thanks to preserved audio recordings and select TV clips, they've managed to pack seven discs with extras in addition to the episodes. Audio intros by Robert Conrad are nothing to get excited about. Conrad just tells you what the episode is about before you watch it. Occasionally, he throws in an anecdote but most of these are only a few seconds. Audio interviews with executives, producers and writers have all the behind the scenes industry gossip of development, regime changes and early TV special effects. They also analyze the show's evolution and why some episodes had to be traditional westerns. A 1978 appearance by Robert Conrad and Ross Martin on the talk show Every Day is both a great glimpse of the middle aged actors and a time capsule of '70s talk shows. Other alternate source material will please the die hard fans but even casual TV enthusiasts will get a kick out of the extras on Wild Wild West.
