» Sarah B. Hood - Are any of these legit?
Brilliant piece and very interesting info about the DVD codes, which I was not aware of. I buy a lot of Bollywood movies from local Indian and Pakistani shops, and it seems to be hard to get legitimate copies of anything, no matter how slick the packaging. (My biggest clue so far: ony one disc in a well sealed box labelled "two dscs" - even though I paid about $14.)A favourite trick is to package two popular films together for five bucks. A hard-to-resist bargain, even without special features. I picked up "Mistress of Spices", which is about to get general release in mainstream theatres, this way. But I suppose these CAN'T be legal, so I generally try to stick to the one-disc-per-box choices with legit-looking graphics. I'm still not sure that any of them are "real".

As for "Mistress of Spices", you're right in noting that it isn't a legal copy because a) it's a UK film, which more than likely, the DVD would've been released there first and b) there currently isn't a DVD release anywhere in the world yet.
